Catalogue Note

First edition; very rare. Knapp's introduction ambitiously stated that his views and descriptions would extend as far as the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers, but the published views are limited to New York City and its environs, including Fort Lee, Hoboken, New York harbor, and Staten Island. The only copy appearing in the auction records for at least the past four decades was in the Laird Park Library (our rooms, 29 November 2000); the Park copy, while handcolored, was considerably smaller than the present and did not have the plates printed on india paper.
