Chroniques de Jherusalem. [A hand-written and hand-painted reproduction of a manuscript in the Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Vienna, 1922-1924]
Manuscript, oblong folio (21 x 11 in.; 533 x 280 mm), 34 pages, written in a batarde hand in red and black ink, 2 full-page, and numerous half-page, quarter-page, and column width miniatures illuminated in full color and burnished gold, within alternating red and blue borders with gold decoration; marginal soiling. Vellum over bevelled oak boards, remains of vellum clasps; soiled, text block loose. With, laid in, an autograph letter signed by Annette von Eckhardt, Munich, 25 August 1929, describing her work, and another by the bookseller Johannes Breymann, Munich, 27 August 1929 offering further books of interest, both letters to Ralph C. Runyon.

Catalogue Note
An astounding hand-made reproduction of an illuminated manuscript chronicle of the Second Crusade, the work of the artist Annette "von" Eckhardt (1871-1934). Eckhardt is known for her book illustrations made for the Bremer Press and other firms, and for her long-term relationship with Franz Marc (1880-1916).
The manuscript model is in Vienna, ÖNB, Cod. 2533, made for Duke Philip of Burgundy about the year 1435.
