4to (9 3/4 x 7 1/8 in.; 248 x 180 mm). Title printed in red and black with engraved vignette, frontispiece and 12 engraved plates by Jan Punt, all hand-colored and heightened with gum arabic; an occasional small marginal spot. Contemporary red crushed morocco, double-fillet border surrounded by a gilt roll-tool of rabbits, dogs and thistles with gilt-stamped imperial crowns at four corners, central panel lined with gilt roll-tooled stylized flowers, acanthus and ferns, edges gilt; joints, hinges and corners worn.

Catalogue Note

Splendidly hand-colored plates. Hoogvliet (1687-1763) was a notary and bookkeeper at the Van Lening Bank in Dordrecht, and part of a circle of poets in that city. This is his best known work.
