Catalogue Note

Two series of these popular engravings, in a deluxe re-issue of the plates without text, hand-colored. "Usually issued in black and white, but some copies were coloured. In this latter state it is rare and fine" (Tooley).

The brothers William (1787-1852) and Edward Finden (1791-1857) established a sucessful engraving atelier in Euston Square where they took on students who acted as assistants, the brothers providing the finishing touches. They often worked after drawings by well-known artists including J. M. W. Turner, David Roberts, Clarkson Stanfield, Thomas Stothard, and Samuel Prout.
