Catalogue Note
Autumn 1975, rather than prior to the 1980 campaign: "I'm sorry you weren't here last week when all the family gathered. We asked Myra to call you because there was a particular reason for the meeting. Perhaps by the time you receive this or soon after I will have announced my decision to campaign for the Republican nomination for the presidency. I wont try to set down all the led to the decision or all that was discussed with your sister & brothers & Mommie but can assure you that it was not an easy decision nor was it lightly made. It is something I feel I must do, indeed that I have very little choice in the matter. I wanted you to hear it from me & not in the evening news."
