Catalogue Note

Army uniform issues. Crogan believes the present army uniform is not adapted "to the nature and circumstances of our service but also as very unlike to the military dress of the Revolution to which it was thought you were desirous to assimilate it." In his endorsement, President Jackson writes: "Referred to the Secretary of War to enquire whether the late uniform adopted corresponds with the uniform of the revolutionary army as adopted by regulation, and if it was, in what particular the revolutionary uniform was plain & economical, the present complained of as extravagant, & onerously expensive."
