Catalogue Note
In need of a furnace for casting artillery. As President of the Provincial Congress, Woodhull thanks his correspondent for the offer of his "furmnace for the purpose of casting Artillery" but declines the kind offer. He explains:" When the Committee of Safety wrote to You it was from an apprehension that heavy Artillery might be wanted, since which You have doubtless been informed . . . To alter Your Workss only for the purpose of procuring a few pieces of Cannon . . .would not be worthwhile; to desire it on our part would be injurious to You & inconsistent with the high sense we entertain of Your attachment to the rights of Your Country."
