Autograph letter signed ("Anthy Wayne"), 1 page ( 9 7/8 x 8 in.; 250 x 205 mm), Headquarters, Ebenezer [Georgia], 2 June 1782, ordering Captain Alexander of the Rifle Corps to join Colonel James Jackson and remonstrating him to refrain from insulting and looting the local inhabitants; washed and pressed, a few minor tears, remains of guard on left margin.  

Catalogue Note

The drive to force the British evacuation of Savannah. Wayne instructs the captain of a rifle corps to have his men join Colonel James Jackson's command: "You are to march your Company immediately to join Lieut. Colo Jackson & put yourself under his Command ... " Jackson, a 24-year-old emigrant from England, had the distinction of leading Wayne's army into Savannah when the British finally surrendered control of the city on 22 July 1782.
