the indigo herati field within a narrow ivory border, together with a Melas rug, West Anatolia, circa 1890, the madder field with stylised tree with blue spandrels, linked lozenge border (Qty 2)

Condition

A Ghashghai rug, Southwest Persia: early 20th century (approximately 171 by 106cm., 5ft. 7in., 3ft. 5in.) With 3mm pile, worn to knot-bars and down to foundation in minor areas. Darker section of abrash at the lower end of rug. With original thick twisted two-coloured side cords. Fringe and section of guard along the top end, with fringe only along the lower end, which is overlocked. Would benefit from a clean. A small Melas rug, Southwest Caucasus: circa 1890 (approximately 135 by 86cm, 4ft. 5in., 2ft. 10in). General 2mm pile, worn down to knot bars and down to foundation is section in the centre and centre right side. Corrosion of the brown wools overall, especially to the roundel motif bottom right of main field. Some areas of brown showing flecks of foundation. Flatweave end guard and soumak fringe. Damage to corners, with wear back to the main field and pile.
