boîte à thé, painted with frises riches including diaper panels, gilded palms and swags of pink roses, the matched cover with a metal mount and cork stopper

Provenance

Probably identifiable as purchased from Stahl, through C.L. de Beaumont on A. Lion's advice.

Condition

The blue enamel line around the rim of the neck appears to have slightly misfired and there is a little rubbing to the gilding visible when the cover is removed.

Catalogue Note

Another example of this model was sold in these rooms, 12th June 1984, lot 193.  It was illustrated by David Peters, Early Sèvres Coffee Pots, The French Porcelain Society Journal, Vol. III, 2007, p. 105, fig.15.  Peters also illustrates a coffee set with similar decoration, (p. 104, fig. 13) dated 1763 and bearing the painter's mark for Louis-Jean Thévenet.  A further example was included in a loan exhibition, Tea, Trade and Tea Canisters, Stockspring Antiques, 2002, p. 43-44 no. 28
