Catalogue Note

Jean-Jacques Lagrenée was Artistic Director at Sèvres from 1785-1800.  He was responsible for a significant number of neo-classical designs and shapes used by artists at the factory.  A cup with a neo-classical subject after Lagrenée, also painted by Dodin, with rr dateletters for 1795, is in the British Museum, see Aileen Dawson, French Porcelain, 1994, pp. 161-2, no. 133
