Description

pot à l'eau tourné of the third size and jatte ovale de pot à l'eau of the second size, decorated with a turquoise bleu céleste ground reserved with vignettes of exotic birds in landscapes, the rims gilded with trailing flowers and palms, fine crack
Provenance
Purchased from H.E. Backer Antiques, circa 1952, for £180.
Condition
The jug has a crack running from the rim to the left of the lip, down the body and around under the lip at the level of the gilding at the top of the cartouche. The crack has a small very thin associated glaze/ground loss approx. 4mm long. The total length of the crack is approx. 6cm. There is another crack running down from the rim to the right of the lip approx. 3cm long which is not visible on the exterior.
The basin has a little rubbing to the ground in the centre where the jug has stood inside it. There is a very fine glaze crack to the exterior running down from one corner of the rim for approx. 2cm.
