Description

caisse carré with champfered corners, decorated probably at a later date, with exotic bird vignettes within gilded green ground borders, cracked

Condition

There are two cracks running vertically down the sides of the tub: one is in the centre of one side panel and runs almost to the base for 10cm, on the exterior the crack has been restored and the painting has slightly discoloured; the opposite side has a similar crack running from the rim almost to the base for approximately 9cm, also partly overpainted. One of the finials has been broken off and restored with some re-gilding. There are some firing cracks inside the base and towards the base on two of the sides.
