Original canvas. The canvas undulates in the lower left corner. There are stretcher bar marks about the edges and in some places, particularly along the left edge, there is corresponding craquelure. There are isolated areas where signs of early craquelure are visible in the grass. The surface has recently been cleaned. Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque uneven varnish and some isolated areas of retouching, including spots on the cow in the bottom right corner, and to the grass in the lower half of the painting.
