The colours are much brighter and fresher than the catalogue illustration suggests. Original canvas. There are two tiny spots of frame abrasion, along the upper edge in the upper right quadrant and to the centre of the right edge, which may correspond to pinholes. There is some very minor paint separation to the places on the two figures lower left, only visibly upon very close inspection. There is a tiny old fleck of paint loss to the man's brown trousers. The surface has recently been cleaned. Otherwise the surface is in excellent original condition. Ultraviolet light reveals pigments which fluoresce that are the hand of the artist, but no apparent signs of retouching. Held in a painted plaster frame.
