The modified rectangular case composed of carved agate, the clasp and hinges set with pear-shaped cabochon sapphires, accented by rose-cut diamonds, measuring approximately 3 5/8 by 2 1/8 by5/8 inches, signed Cartier, N.Y., numbered 2404.
Condition
The box is smooth and comfortable in the hand. Interesting striations and color zoning within the agate. Several cracks extending from one of the hinges, but not immediately apparent and material appears stable. Diamonds approximately H-I color and VS-SI clarity. Sapphires are medium blue, with abrasions and/or very small chips to the high relief points. Signed on reverse of thumpiece. In good condition.
