Description
- marked on foot, neck and cover, the rim with later Soviet control mark

of globular form, on domed circular foot flat-chased with stiff-leaves, the body applied on each side with classical maidens, the shoulder flat-chased with laurel leaf border, with lion's-head spout and wood scroll handle, the detachable cover with bud finial.
Catalogue Note
Odiot was much appreciated by the Russians who flocked to Paris after Napoleon's defeat, including Prince Demidoff, Countess Branicki (a niece of Potemkin), and Czar Alexander I, who commissioned a service for Count Pozzo di Borgo. Without arms or initials, though, the initial owner of this teapot, in Russia in Soviet times, cannot be determined.
