Description

  • A Marble Strigilated Sarcophagus

  • height 30 3/4 in.; width 76 3/4 in.; depth 28 1/2 in.
carved in relief at each of the rounded ends with a lion devouring a horse, the strigilations centering a mandorla decorated with a barrel-like object.

Condition

As shown. Surface is highly weathered. Front half is repaired from several fragments. Chips and abrasions overall. There is a later drainage hole and filling hole inside, probably for later use as a trough and/or a planter.
