Condition

To the naked eye: The painting is in moderately satisfactory condition. The painting was previously fretted in the upper and lower parts and put as rectangle later. There are many horizontal marks; the painting has probably been rolled. The painting has been properly but a bit strongly relined. There is a tear (twenty five by twenty centimeters) in the left corner, near the headpiece on Ene. Under UV lamp: Under a green, thick uniform varnish. There are restorations on the extension in the upper and lower parts. There is a vertical restoration a along the edge at seven centimeters of the stretcher on the left, this mark is due to the stretcher. There are some restorations on the back of the character on the left, on the face of the character holding the headpiece.

Dans un cadre en bois sculpté et doré.

Notre tableau est une reprise d'atelier d'après la composition originale pour Les forges de Vulcain par François Boucher conservée au musée du Louvre [1]. Ce tableau dans un ovale peint avait été présenté par Boucher au Salon de 1747. Il a été peint pour la chambre du roi au château de Marly.
