Condition

Very good overall condition with minor surface dust. The tip of the warrior's glaive may have been slightly retouched. Remains of a label to his left forestanding thigh. A few minor chips to the backside of his drapery. Very interesting piece in good condition.

Catalogue Note

Il s'agit ici vraissemblablement d'une esquisse pour un des Gladiateurs, réalisés par Gérôme pour l'Exposition Universelle 1878. En 1905, Aimé Morot, son gendre, intègre ces figures de Gladiateur dans un monument érigé à son honneur.
