Condition

Work hasn't been relined. Some minor paint losses in the thick impasto of the mountain region. No retouching visible at all under UV-light.

Catalogue Note

Das stimmungsvolle Zusammentreffen von Luft, Licht und Erde hielt Wieland in diesem Gemälde auf eindrückliche Weise fest. In einem realistischen Stil bildete der Maler die Malojaschlange ab, jene graue quellende Wolkenwalze, die unter bestimmten Wetterbedingungen über den Malojapass ins Engadin kriecht, um sich dort wieder aufzulösen. Dem Künstler gelang es, aus einer konventionellen Alpenansicht eine spannungsgeladene Momentaufnahme zu machen.
