Literature

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the Gardner Manufactory freely adapted some of the best known designs of German porcelain factories, particularly Meissen, for the Russian market. Johann Joachim Kändler and Michel-Victor Acier's endearing series of Young Gardeners (c. 1764-1781) were first produced by Gardner in the 1790s; by the 1820s, the figures were now updated with brightly-colored, exuberant clothing to delight the eye. For comparable figures, see Shedevry russkogo farfora XVIII veka iz sobraniia galerei "Popov i Ko.", Moscow, 2009, pp. 308-309.
