Literature
In keeping with Fabergé's custom of purchasing objects from other firms, in particular glass and porcelain manufactories, and mounting them in silver, there are a handful of silver-mounted lacquer pieces known. All of these appear to be Lukutin products, suggesting either that those were preferred over the work of Vishnyakov, or that some arrangement existed between Fabergé and the Lukutin firm. For other Lukutin lacquer boxes with Fabergé mounts, see the gold-mounted red Lukutin box in the India Early Minshall Collection at the Cleveland Museum of Art (1964.464); Sotheby's, London, June 16, 1994, lot 189; Christie's, New York, April 15, 1997, lot 66; and, Christie's, New York, 19 April 2002, lot 151.
Condition
overall good condition; one tulip on the cover missing its gilded mounting pin, the leaf of one tulip on the base slightly damaged. Some traces of gilding apparent when examined under magnification.
