Description

  • the halo marked with unidentified Cyrillic maker's mark G.Ya., the oklad apparently unmarked

  • Tempera on wood panel, gilded silver, river pearls, foil, linen, ruby
  • 12 1/4 x 10 3/4 in.
  • 31.1 x 27.3 cm
with a smaller image of the martyr St. Vassa on the left border looking up at the Mother of God, the border of the gilded silver oklad and the halo engraved with scrolling foliage, the robes sewn with seed pearls a mounted with an engraved ruby

Condition

some of the pearl embroidery loose, the icon surface with some losses from the back of the oklad; otherwise in overall good condition
