Description

  • height including handle: 5.8cm, 2 1/4 in.
the flared bowl with scooped rim and pierced shaped handle, enamelled overall with subtly-shaded polychrome stylised flowers and geometric motifs on pale peach, blue and olive grounds, the interior base engraved '2-VII-1907', struck K.Fabergé in Cyrillic beneath the Imperial Warrant, overstriking workmaster's initials, 91 standard, scratched inventory number 21574

Provenance

A gift to Gladys Mary McNabb from her husband Thomas McNabb of the McNabb Rougier shipping firm, based in Odessa, on the occasion of their first wedding anniversary in 1908, the object inscribed with the date of their wedding the previous year.

Thence by descent to the present owner.

Condition

A small number of tiny enamel losses, some wear to gilding, otherwise in excellent condition.

Stylistically, the present lot relates closely to the large bratina which sold, Sotheby's London, 26 November 2008, lot 207, and the bratina, formerly in the collection of the Countess de Torby (1868-1927), morganatic wife of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich, illustrated, G. von Habsburg, Fabergé Hofjuwelier de Zaren, 1986, no. 83, p. 134.
