Description

  • Silver, enamel, cabochons
  • height: 21.5cm, 8 1/2 in.
the oval bowl with a flared border set with cabochon garnets and chrysoprase in raised hammered mounts, the high squared handle applied with a plaque of shaded blue and green opaque enamel within raised silver swirls, the top an arch of enamelled half rosettes, the handle inscribed in Russian 'In fond memory Je. Verpo from colleagues O.Yu.R.K.P in Gorlovka' and dated 5 October 1917, with unidentified maker's mark NIT (Cyrillic, Postnikova-Losseva no. 2732), 84 standard

Condition

There is an enamel loss down to the metal on the handle, the side facing the bowl, measuring approx. 2cm. The engraving has worn considerably but is mostly legible. Minor surface nicks and scratches.
