Catalogue Note

The present work also belonged to the wealthy Latvian lawyer and collector, Arthur Ferdinand Hamann (1888-1954), ten of whose paintings are offered in the Russian sale of 28th November. The narrow black frame and distinctive backboard are also the work of the restorer he employed, Karlis Yuryans, and confirm that the offered lot was part of the original collection he put together in the first half of the twentieth century. Please refer to the Important Russian Art catalogue for full details of the collection.
