Condition
Original canvas, which is uneven throughout and slightly creased and undulated in the top left corner. There are three patches to the reverse. There is a layer of surface dirt and scattered flecks of paintloss in places, including the edges and a concentrated area in the centre of the canvas. UV light reveals a substantial area of retouching in the top left corner, a number of areas of retouching to the sky, to the rocks in the right half, to the ground to the left of the oxen and scattered flecks of retouching to the edges and elsewhere. Held in an ornate gold painted plaster frame. Unexamined out of frame. The painting would benefit from a professional clean and restoration.
