Condition

The sheet appears sound, slightly undulated in places. There is a slight crease to the plume of the central figure and there is a light layer of surface dirt and some dirty marks and faint discolouration to the sky. Held behind glass in an ornate, gold painted frame. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

Petr Balashov was employed by the Ministry of War to depict the constantly changing uniforms of the Imperial armies. The Ministry provided drawing materials and paper of the highest quality which accounts for the excellent condition and bright pigments in many of his surviving works.
