Original canvas, which is a little loose on the stretcher. There is an oval steretcher mark to the canvas. The paint surface is quite dirty with a layer of discoloured varnish. There is an area of quite pronounced craquelure to the sky and abrasion to the inner frame edge. There is a horizontal scratch to the upper right of the mother's head. UV light reveals some minor spots of new retouching in places, however the presence of a fluourescing layer of varnish prevents a more conclusive examination. Held in an oval gold painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
