Condition

In an orientalist frame. One small scrath on the eye of the standing woman, visible on the catalogue. Some retouchings in the face of the child standing. One small restored crack in the wood (5cm) goes from the head of the baby to the chest of the child. Good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

Van Biesbroeck découvre l'Algérie en 1926. Il prend un atelier à Alger, La Volière, dans lequel il peint des oeuvres décrivant essentiellement les habitants du sud du pays, en particulier les Bou Saadiens. C'est en effet le sud de l'Algérie qui l'inspire et dont il aime noter sur le vif la vie quotidienne des habitants.
Dans le Berceau,  il montre sa maîtrise des couleurs riches et contrastées utilisées pour transmettre la beauté singulière et la sensualité des femmes algériennes.
