Condition

There is a repaired tear of 1 cm length to the upper extreme edge; a fold to the upper edge and a repaired paper loss in teh upper left corner. Otherwise this work is in overall good condition.

Catalogue Note

Executed in 1902, the present works are studies for the two female riders in Kupka's last major Symbolist painting of the same title, completed in 1903 (see lot 37, fig. 1). The models were Kupka's past and present loves Maria Bruhn and Gabrielle.
