SURFACE: in fair condition; work is painted rather thinly and canvas weave shows through in many areas; a spot at upper right in sky and a vertical line along the right edge--look like old repairs; surface has a dark cast--looks dirty Under ULTRA VIOLET: as noted above, the spot at upper right and line along right edge are inpainting; repairs, as well, at upper left, scattered along the left edge and a few more spots, roughly along the edges; signature is under old varnish which hasn't been touched
