Description

  • cloisonne enamel
each standing four-square supporting a large vase, the elephants decorated with stylized archaistic animals and birds on a turquoise ground and wearing green saddlecloths patterned with cranes amongst clouds, the vases decorated with scrolling lotus above bands of bats and peaches between narrow geometric borders.

Condition

Both elephant-form vases in overall good condition with only minor wear to the enamels, particularly around the feet and rims and some wear and tarnishing of the gilt bronze. One with a chip to the underside of the everted rim of the vase and some dents to the inner rim.
