- Lacquer, stoneware
the stoneware bodies and wood covers decorated in gold, brown and red lacquer with leaping carp beneath rockwork and Chinese bellflowers, all on a brown ground, the rims of the covers and the top section of the mouth decorated in gold with an irregular rope pattern.

Condition
Both jars and covers have been revarnised. The interior rims on both covers have added gilt design. One of the covers has repairs to the inner rim with overpaint gilt decoration, flaking and repaired chips to the rim. Knop restuck and consolidation to flaking. There is an approximately 6 in. long repaired split to the cover and an approximately 8 in. horizontal repair to the surface on the other side. One of the vases has loss of lacquer to rim, small nicks and cracks. There is an approximately 4 in. section of the rim with restoration and overpaint. One-third up from the base there is a horizontal restored crack. Surface has age appropriate signs of wear including small nicks, scratching and wear to gilt. The gilt has been overpainted along the rim. Restoration to chips on the base. On the other cover there is evident loss of lacquer in several areas particularly around the rim. Restoration to inner and outer rim including consolidation and repainting of gilt. Knop restuck. There is an approximately 2 ½ in. section of repair to the inner rim. The other vase has loss of lacquer in several areas particularly to inner rim. Areas of flaking and loss including consolidation and repainting of gilt. Consolidated and repaired stress fracture around the body one-third up from the base. Chips and repairs around the base particularly around the edges of the foot rim.
