oval bodies with fluted collars and gadroon borders, reeded handles rising from lion-masks, on square bases supported by winged lions abolve conforming stands, beaded borders, the soup tureen on winged paw feet and with a matching liner, the sauce tureens later engraved with foliate initial under princely coronet.

Condition
surfaces a little bright, esp. covers, and engraving rubbed on sauce tureens.
soup tureen cover does not fit quite flush, nicks on one side of square base and around foot above, probably from straightening at one point, some screws replaced, one in base metal
a few tiny dings and pushed down slightly into bases, but generally crisp and impressive model

Catalogue Note
This suite represents a rare but imposing model by Storr. The crouching winged lions, applied beaded borders, and stand on winged lion feet all reoccur on the suite of four Egyptian-style tureens made for the Duke of Cumberland between 1806 and 1808, now in the Gilbert Collection. The Royal Collection's earlier versions of those tureens, 1802-1803, have winged female sphinx supports, but three years later Storr had switched to the stern-visaged lions seen here and on the Gilbert pieces. A similar soup tureen was in the collection of Mrs. Fay Plohn, sold Sotheby's London, July 16, 1970, lot 143.
