each modelled with eight octagonal spouts and painted with oriental flowers issuing from rockwork, birds and butterflies, affixed on either side with a salamander handle.

Provenance

Christie's Monaco, Collection de Monsieur et Madame Robert Kahn Sriber, July 1, 1995, lot 86, illustrated

Condition

Two spouts of one vase have some minor restoration to their rim edges, probably covering chips; the backside of the large central spout is completely over-sprayed, probably covering a restored break. The upper portion of salamander's mouth is restored and possibly made up. The other vase has an approximate 1-1/2 inch restored chip to the edge of the large central spout. The head of one salamander is restored and probably made up; the tail of the other salamander has some restoration. There are areas of restoration along the edges of the bodies of both vases, probably covering small chips and glaze chips as well as some restoration to corners of bases of both and to one end of the base of the first vase. The restoration is well-done and it is difficult to determine the exact nature of the underlying damage. Both have some minor typical small chips and glaze chips.
