Catalogue Note

The plates are typical of the florid ornament of the Neo-Rococo taste so popular in Russia in the mid-19th century. The bright "Popov Blue" and rare black glazes showcase the unusually rich range of enamel colors that the Popov factory was known to produce. For a comparable plate design, see Heikki Hyvönen, Venäläistä Posliniia – Russian Porcelain. Collection of Vera Saarela, The National Museum of Finland, Helsinki, 1982, p. 278, fig. 104.
