Catalogue Note

A handsome Cosway binding with an oval portrait of Jonson painted on ivory by C. B. Currie, and set in the upper cover, this edition one of 480 copies on hand-made paper. Brown crushed morocco, quadruple fillet border with inmost fillet curved at four corners surrounding a dot, the miniature surround with gilt scrolling foliage and flower-heads, gilt-ruled and stamped turn-ins, teal watered-silk doublures and endleaves, top edge gilt, by Rivière & Son, gilt-stamped on lower doublure "Miniatures by C.B. Currie," number 943 of the Cosway bindings according to a printed sheet signed by J.H. Stonehouse and C.B. Currie bound in.
