Minor rubbing to upper joint, negligible nicks to raised bands on spine. A few light scratches to spine and top of solander case.

Catalogue Note
A regal Cosway binding, numbered 800 and signed by the inventor J. H. Stonehouse and the artist Miss C.B. Currie. The binding features a fine, large miniature on ivory of Louis XIV by Miss Currie and is loosely based on an early portrait of the Sun King by his favorite court painter, Charles Le Brun. Dark green crushed morocco, the miniature set within a resplendent cartouche of fleurs-de-lys and small flowers upon a semé field of smaller fleurs-de-lys, surrounded by a border of tiny fleurs-de-lys with fleur-de-lys cornerpieces, the spine in six compartments lettered and tooled with varying sizes of fleurs-de-lys, gilt turn-ins with gilt fleur-de-lys cornerpieces, red moiré linings, the upper doublure stamped in gold "Bound by Rivière & Son | From Designs by J. H. Stonehouse"; also signed on the turn-in "Bound by Rivière & Son"; the lower doublure signed in facsimile in gilt "Miniatures | C. B. Currie"; edges gilt. Brown morocco solander case lettered gilt, by Rivière.
