Catalogue Note

An imposing Cosway binding with 6 oval portrait miniatures of Napoleon, Josephine, his second wife Marie Louise, and his issue with her, the Duke of Reichstadt, probably painted by C. B. Currie, one inserted in each cover. Black levant morocco, single-fillet border, surrounding a field of gold-stamped flowers and Napoleon's emblematic bees, with four imperial crowns accompanied by the initial "N", sprigs of laurel leaves surround the miniatures, on a field of small dots, gilt-ruled turn-ins, top edge gilt, by Rivière & Son.
