One seed pearl on vol. 1 at the top of the cartouche damaged, one seed pearl lacking on vol. 2, silk markers frayed.

A lovely pair of Cosway-style bindings in full marine blue morocco by Bayntun (Rivière) upper covers with inset handcolored portraits on ivory of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, the miniatures surrounded by a a gilt triple-fillet inset with a simulated seed pearl border, in turn surrounded by a gilt sunburst, the outer border with a design of inlaid white morocco lilies and green morocco foliage, the lower covers with a central gilt sunburst design surrounding a large fleur-de-lys, single fillet gilt border, the spine in six compartments with raised bands with two reserved for lettering, the remaining compartments tooled with inlaid white morocco lilies within double gilt fillets, dentelles richly gilt, pale mauve silk moiré linings, edges gilt. Fleece-lined slipcase.
