Cosway-style binding. Brown morocco gilt by Bayntun, front cover of volume I with inset oval portrait miniature of Diderot on ivory, the miniature surrounded by a gilt-tooled border of two fillets, the outer border and the borders to all other covers formed from gilt fillets with strapwork cornerpieces; spine in six compartments with raised bands, gilt-lettered in the second and fourth, others with repeat pattern in gilt, turn-ins gilt, marbled-paper endleaves, gilt edges.
