This soup plate is from the first replacements and additions ordered for the famous Service aux camées commissioned by Catherine the Great from Sèvres in 1776 and delivered to St. Petersburg in 1779. In 1841, Emperor Nicholas I commissioned a series of replacements for pieces of the original service that had been lost or broken.
