Catalogue Note
In 1824, under King George IV's direction, Sir Jeffry Wyattville began the remodeling of Windsor Castle with the intention that each of the State Apartments would be completed in a different architectural style. Many consider his finest achievements to be the Rococo rooms exemplified by The Grand Reception Room depicted in the present work. The elaborately gilded, decorated ceiling is complimented by a series of Gobelins tapestries. The Grand Reception Room was one of the many rooms in Windsor Castle damaged by a devastating fire in 1992 and restored over five years of meticulous effort.
