Catalogue Note
The 1740 inventory of the Kunstkammer of the Margravate Baden-Baden, drawn up for Margrave Ludwig Georg (1702-1762), lists the present candlestick as: Ein von helfenbein gewunden gedreheter leuchter mit einem schwartzen bletle. It appears again in a 1772 inventory of Kunstkammer items transferred from Baden-Baden to the house Baden-Durlach as number 146. Two paper labels bear numbers representing the inventories of 1883 ("2626") and 1919 ("47"). See Sotheby's, Die Sammlung der Markgrafen und Grosshersöge von Baden, Baden-Baden, October 5-21, 1995 for a detailed discussion of the collections and inventories.
