Description
- pottery
- length 12 3/4 in.
- 32.4 cm
naturalistically modelled issuing leafy vines forming the feet and a flowering vine across the cover as the knop, the interior of the base with a black wheel mark.
Provenance
Christie's New York, November 23, 1981, lot 93
Condition
Nearly the entire length of the vine on one side of the tureen is a made-up restoration and a little less than half of the vine on the other side is similarly restored - the restoration affecting both feet on the first side and one foot on the other. The base of the tureen has a long haircrack, extending lengthwise approximately 9 in and forking at either end, which appears to have been filled in an effort to stabilise it; and there are restored chips and losses to the leaves, stems and the flower petals of the knop.
