Condition
Chinese carpet: Pile ranges from approximately 1/8 inch with scattered areas low to knotheads and spot foundation due to foldwear, wear and oxidized browns; minor scattered moth damage, mostly along sides with some faded repiled moth damage, generally along left side of carpet. Scattered spot stains and surface dirt.
Sides with original cotton selvages, minor breaks.
Ends secured with chainstitch.
Supple handle, lustrous wool, will enhance with cleaning, good overall condition.
Samarkand: Pile low to knotheads and foundation throughout---very thin; small slits and tears along sides; scattered old repiling; carpet has been chemically washed to fade colors.
Sides with old overcasting, now with losses and fraying. Scattered spot stains.
Ends with losses to outer guard borders, fraying in areas.
Supple handle; will enhance with cleaning and some conservation.
