Description
- Circle of Charles Jervas
- Portrait of Elizabeth Drake of Amersham
- inscribed with a coat of arms and with the name of the sitter: "Mu(?) Thomas Drake Amersham, daut and heiress of Isaac Whittingham Esq. M.P. of Amersham and of Mary Fenwicke his wife and mother of Sarah, wife of Augustus Pechell Esqs. Great Berkhamstead."
- oil on canvas
Condition
The canvas has an old relining. Overall this picture presents a strong image and is in a fair state of preservation. A slightly discolored varnish remains but under UV scattered old retouches are visible in the face and parts of drapery. Most notable is an area of repaint in the left portion of the figure's torso which has been repainted. Some careful reexamination and restoration of this area could benefit but overall nice preservation of paint.
