the lid with a cavalier at rest beside his dogs, the body carved in high relief showing the catch of a stag, beneath an oak tree with a Bavarian village in low relief in the background, the mounts embossed with foliate and floral designs, struck with German pseudo-hallmarks, probably for Neresheimer.
Condition
Overall in good original condition. With no apparent losses or chips to ivory. The mounts with the usual tarnishing consistent with age and environmental effects. Light traces of old gilding in places. The underside of the lid and the interior gilded.
